TSMC to Expand Production Capacity by More Than 30% in 2011
December 03, 2010

TSMC announced on December 3 that the company will boost its production capacity by more than 30% in 2011 in a bid to tap the burgeoning demand, Dow Jones Newswires reported on December 3, citing TSMC's Chairman Morris Chang. Chang stated that the company already raised its production capacity 37% in 2010 and is expected to further boost capital spending earmarked for 2011, up from US$5.9 billion in 2010, according to the same source. TSMC's revenue is expected to outnumber the global semiconductor industry in 2011, which is estimated to grow around 5%, due to increasing orders outsourced by chip companies that traditionally manufacture chips in-house. TSMC supplies chips for companies such as Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and Texas Instruments.
